Who was Andrew the Apostle

Saint Andrew and his brother Peter were the first disciples. In this article, we will learn about his activity with Jesus.

Saint Andrew and the Sea of Galilee

Saint Andrew, commonly known as Andrew the Apostle, was the brother of Saint Peter. Just like his brother Peter and their companions John and James, Andrew was originally a fisherman of the Sea of Galilee in the Holy Land.

According to the Gospels

In the Gospel of Matthew, when Jesus left Nazareth and arrived at the Sea of Galilee, he was looking for his first disciples. Jesus was walking on the shore where he saw Peter and Andrew working with their nets and fishing. Jesus approached them with a proposal: instead of finding fish, he offered to help them find and guide people, “…Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)
However, in a different account in the Gospel of John, it is stated that Andrew was a disciple of John the Baptist One day, Jesus walked by and John the Baptist declared, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). At this point, Andrew and another disciple of John decided to follow Jesus.

His work with Jesus

While there is little else about Andrew in the Bible, Christianity holds that he was one of the disciples who were very close to Jesus. According to the Gospel of John, it is Andrew who informed Jesus about the boy with loaves and fishes. Later, when Phillip wanted to consult Jesus about some Greeks who wanted to speak to Him, he had to talk to Andrew first. Lastly, Andrew was one of the disciples present during the Last Supper.

Andrew went on to preach the Good News in the Holy Land and in the surrounding regions. He was finally crucified in Patras, Greece.

How did Jesus pray?

How did Jesus pray?

The Importance of prayer, at any time

Prayer is a very important part of our spiritual lives as Christians. As it is extremely essential, Christians always wonder how they should pray and what for their prayers should take. Even though the answers to such questions may vary, it should be the aspiration of every Christian to make prayers an important aspect of their lives. Christ teaches us about prayer through his own examples. Jesus Christ prays frequently and by doing so, he shows us how to pray. This article gives an insight regarding prayer by reflecting on the prayer of Jesus at the Garden of Gethsemane.

Who is our teacher regarding prayers?

After Jesus arrived in the garden, He withdraws from his disciples and goes to pray, as recorded in Luke 22:41. Even though he prays for the whole of his life, this night is one of the several instances he isolates himself to pray, and by doing so, he provides an example for us. Christians should, therefore, try to make prayer part of their lives and focus exclusively on God. When making big decisions, Christians should always take the time to seek out the will of God.

Who is our Dad?

Jesus starts to pray by addressing God as Dad (Abba in Hebrew), according to Mark 14:36. He kneels down in the garden and starts preparing to embrace his passion and death. In the most difficult part of his life, Jesus prays. The prayer of Christ invites us to address God as children. Christ bridges the infinite gap between human and divine, welcoming us into a relationship with God that is not distant and fearful, but rather, loving and deeply personal.
Jesus Christ then asks God to “let this cup pass from me”, according to Matthew 26:39. From this verse, we learn that He is bold in presenting his desires and wishes. We learn that sometimes we hold back not knowing the will of God for us.

The Birth of Mother Mary – What do we know?

The Birth of Mother Mary – What do we know?

Do you know who were Mother Mary’s parents or where she was born? Here are some highlights of her origins

As the mother of Jesus, Mary is a central figure in Christianity. Even though we don’t have direct details of her birth recorded in the Bible, we do have some information. Some of the earliest Christian writers did describe her nativity.

Jerusalem or Sepphoris?

The place of her birth varies according to different accounts. Some place it near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem while others claim it was in Sepphoris in north modern-day Israel.
Date of Birth
As for the date, the Catholic Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8. There is also a celebration of her Immaculate Conception exactly nine months earlier, on December 8.

Who were her parents?

The Protoevangelium of James describes how Mary’s parents, Saints Joachim and Anne, were grieved by their childlessness. Her parents were devoted to prayer and fasting until an angel came to greet them.

The angel and Mary’s name

Afterwards, the angel told them: “The Lord has heard your prayer, and you shall conceive, and shall bring forth, and your seed shall be spoken of in all the world.”

From the book, we are learning how Joachim took the newborn Mary to the priests, stating, “And they blessed her, saying: O God of our fathers, bless this child, and give her an everlasting name to be named in all generations.”
“…And he brought her to the chief priests, and they blessed her, saying: O God most high, look upon this child, and bless her with the utmost blessing, which shall be forever.”

Mother Mary as an Infertility Healer

Mother Mary as an Infertility Healer

Mother Mary as an Infertility Healer

Mother Mary received a gift and an important role as the Mother of the Son of God. How can she help us?

The Mother

Mary is the first choice saint of many Christian women when praying to overcome infertility. Mother Mary was the mother of Jesus, who was born after the Angel Gabriel came to her announcing, “You will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus” (Luke 1:31). The Angel told Mary that God chose her for all women to carry the Son of God and be his mother.

Praying to Mary

Our Lady of Perpetual Help is one of Mother Mary’s known titles; a name which goes all the way back to the 13th century. Her Motherhood is an example of God’s work; therefore, she also has an open heart with a listening spirit. It is no wonder that we find her as our lighthouse in troubled times. Many infertile women and couples turn to her and practice prayer to the Mother Mary. Parents who encounter difficulties and wish for a child are waiting for a miracle. Therefore, the miracle of Jesus who was born to Mother Mary contributed to her popularity as a focus for prayer.

A Prayer to Mother Mary

The following is an example of a prayer to Mother Mary, as the healer of all infertility. You know my deep desire for a child
Dear Mother,
You know my deep desire for a child
A little one to love and to hold,
to care for, to cherish.
Grant that my body may conceive and
give birth to a beautiful, healthy baby
in Your holy image.
Guide me in all my choices
so that this conception, my pregnancy,
and my baby’s birth
are in line with Your will.
Heavenly Father and Holy Mother,
hear this prayer of my
heart, mind, and spirit.
Amen.

Praying for Peace and Salvation

Praying for Peace and Salvation

Prayer is one of the most effective and powerful ways to reach our inner peace and salvation. In modern times, it’s more powerful than ever.

Why are we praying?

Two other questions arise when asking ourselves why we’re praying: WHEN are we praying and WHAT are we praying for? Usually, when we feel lost or troubled, we are seeking for Salvation and Peace. We want to go back to the place and situation that made us feel safe and comfortable. In this sense, praying for Peace and Salvation goes hand in hand. But how will praying help us achieve this goal?

Do you sometimes feel lost, misguided, or hurt? Does it make you feel troubled, trapped or distressed?

Prayer is a pathway to God

A prayer is a direct way to reach God’s heart so that He would know what is dear and true to us. We form a very close bond with God through prayer, because he listens and answers. If we want salvation and forgiveness from God, we have to talk to Him, and the only way to give some of that eternal love back to Him is to pray from the bottom of our hearts.

Should we pray for Peace?

Prayer for peace is no exception – God hears us in whatever prayer we choose to let Him hear. Praying for peace may bring joy and serenity to our hearts, and God blesses us all with everyday happiness when we’re thankful… God gave us the gift of life, and only God will grant us peace and salvation.

Praying in modern time

Even today, we have a culture of praying. Groups for praying are an amazing way to bond with your fellow Christians, and it’s a powerful praise to God Himself. Technology today gives us the opportunity of praying with even larger communities around the world. Praying for peace and salvation for others is powerful, as well as praying for ourselves. Praise the Lord for salvation and peace, and never be afraid of talking to God, because he is always here to help and guide us.
