2022 – THE YEAR OF YOUR SALVATION

Friends and relatives used to talk about their trials and tribulations and the journey down the path to salvation. To make matters worse, I was going through a rough patch in my life and my faith in the Almighty was dwindling with each passing day.

THE STORY OF MY ADDICTION

I was a 19-year-old teenager who had just joined the college as a freshman. A friend introduced me to drugs at his birthday party. Initially, I refused to be a part of the crowd, but my curiosity to taste the unknown got the better of me. Soon, I was a regular customer and knew most of the suppliers in town. What started as a “fun” thing became a question of life and death for me. Deep down, I knew that I was on the path to self-destruction, but the lure of drugs and being on a high made me go back on my promises to get out of the addiction.

I used to be a straight-A student in school; slowly, my grades in college started slipping and it seemed that I would either drop out or be forced out. I had become so desperate that nothing could stop me or keep me away from the addiction. My meagre pocket money was blown away in a few days and I was in dire need of cash to fund my addiction. I started stealing money from my parents and borrowing from friends and relatives. My parents and friends noticed that I had withdrawn into a shell and avoided everyone known to me. They tried talking me out of it but every time I tried to retrace my steps it proved to be a futile attempt. My last hope of becoming sober at a rehabilitation centre, too, did not yield any positive results. I became the topic of discussion at family gatherings and even my best friends kept away from me. I was slowly sinking into an abyss and it seemed like I had reached a point of no return. But life had other plans for me.

HOW A SIMPLE ONLINE PRAYER REQUEST TRANSFORMED MY LIFE

A distant relative came to visit us and learned of my plight. She suggested that I should send a prayer request to a church I thought would help me seek salvation. I rediscovered my belief in the Supreme Power. I felt that when all was lost Christ chose to lead me down the path of salvation. He embraced me when there was no one to realize my pain. The Supreme Power blessed and healed me when I had lost all hope.

It takes us a while to realize that we are not alone and that God alone can deliver us from our sins. I have been fortunate to experience his Divine Grace and turn my life around. Looking for new love? It is worth praying for it

When you look around your social circle, does it strike you that most of your siblings, cousins, and friends have found the person of their dreams and have settled down to happy matrimony? To your utter amazement, even the ones who were left behind or had sworn to stay away from the bond of marriage have found their ideal partners or soulmates and will soon be ensconced in their love nests. On the other hand, you are picking up the broken pieces of your love life and trying to act normal. As you get on with your life, you realize the emptiness in your world. You yearn for companionship but, at the same time, feel wary of making the same mistake twice. You begin to blame yourself for everything that goes wrong in your life and begin to question yourself for even inane things happening around you. You realize in your heart of hearts that only Divine Grace can help you tide over your past and begin life anew; yet, when you start praying, your soul seems to be restless. If you can identify your predicament but do not know who to turn to, consider sending a prayer request to soothe your restive heart and soul.

THE DAY MY LIFE ENDED (OR SO I THOUGHT)

I had always believed in fairy tale romances and “happily ever after” endings, but when I went through a painful period of heartbreak my world fell apart. Life seemed to drag and I began to lose interest in things and activities I used to enjoy. I became a recluse and would get irritated at the slightest provocation. I prayed to God but, at times, words failed me and tears rolled down my cheeks. In my despair, I thought even the Almighty had forsaken me.

Although I had heard accounts of others and their success stories, I was skeptical as to whether it would work for me. Moreover, I was physically as well as mentally too tired to undertake any journey to seek solace. Soon, my parents introduced me to a family friend whom I had not met before. At first, my past came back to haunt me and I thought that I was heading for another disastrous relationship. It was at these times that I would think of the path that the Lord had chosen for me. Slowly I realized that I had met the right person and could foresee a happy future awaiting me. Although I was undertaking a new journey I knew that the Almighty was always with me. He showered his blessings on me and gave me a ray of hope when I thought that everything in my life had come to a standstill. I realized that the path chosen for me was God’s will and I decided to cast aside my apprehensions and travel down the road before me.

There are times when our belief in the Almighty becomes a little shaky and we do not know what to do or which road to take. I Prayed In A Holy Place And Won Salvation

Time and again, we have turned to God seeking divine blessings in our times of need. I used to hear the experiences of friends and relatives of how they have been showered with His blessings or how those who did not believe in His power became devout followers after feeling His presence in their lives. Some family members who were old and indisposed due to financial issues narrated stories of their brush with the Supreme Being and how He had blessed them although they were physically unable to go on a pilgrimage; they cited how merciful God was in answering their prayers sent through a prayer request. A tech-savvy cousin even commented on how one can make use of an online prayer request nowadays and seek His blessings without having to take time off from work or plan a trip to holy sites. Although I listened to them in awe, I did not experience His grace being bestowed upon me till tragedy struck my mundane life.

A few years ago, my husband and I used to live on the outskirts of the city. This meant traveling long hours to reach our respective work destinations. My husband bought a motorbike to save time as well as cut down on the traveling expenses he had to incur every day while commuting to his office. Although it saved time and ensured a considerable amount of savings for us, there was always a niggling worry in the back of my mind about his safety, as the condition of a particular stretch of road near his office was potholed and full of craters. My worst fears came true when I received a telephone call from one of his colleagues on a rainy evening. He said that my husband had met with a terrible accident while navigating a pothole on that stretch of road and his motorbike had skidded. My husband was flung several feet away and found unconscious by passersby. Someone from the crowd found his identity card and informed the office. His colleagues rushed to the spot and took him to the nearest hospital.

In a single moment, my world turned upside down. I rushed to the hospital with a friend. Several X-rays revealed that he had multiple fractures on his left leg. Doctors said his condition was critical as he was diabetic. He was kept under observation and doctors monitored his condition round-the-clock. Although he needed surgery for his leg, doctors were naturally reluctant to go ahead with it until his blood glucose levels were stable.

As I broke down, one of my relatives consoled me and suggested that I consider sending an online prayer request to a holy site of my choice. I had never sent a prayer request before, but my heart told me to put my trust in the Almighty and hope for a miracle. Although it took several weeks for my husband to heal completely and walk again without the help of crutches or any support, I knew that it was possible only because of the Lord’s mercy on me and my family.

There are moments in our lives when we believe in the Lord’s powers but there remains an iota of confusion or disbelief in our minds. We ask ourselves why we haven’t received His blessings and wonder if we ever will? It is in these trying times that the Lord shows his mercy and turns us into His devout followers.
